Hanoi Celebrates 70 Years of Freedom with a Stunning Áo Dài Extravaganza

HANOI – A vibrant dance performance and an áo dài carnival, titled “Capital Women – Integration and Development,” was held on Saturday morning at the iconic Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long, celebrating the beauty and elegance of Vietnamese traditional long dress, áo dài.

This spectacular event was a collaborative effort between the Hà Nội Women’s Union and the municipal Department of Tourism as a highlight of the Hanoi Tourism Áo Dài Festival 2024, commemorating significant milestones in the history of Hà Nội.

The carnival showcased a diverse range of participants, including families spanning generations, officials, businesses, locals, and international guests, all coming together to mark the 70th anniversary of Hà Nội’s Liberation Day and the 1014th anniversary of Thăng Long – Hà Nội.

One of the event’s most memorable moments was a folk dance performance that gracefully exhibited the áo dài. The dancers moved in harmony to the melodies of Người Hà Nội, Tiến về Hà Nội, and Hà Nội những công trình. This performance featured a symbolic number of 1,014 women from the capital, honoring the rich history of Thăng Long – Hà Nội.

In a stunning display, over 1,000 delegates paraded in their exquisite áo dài, starting from the Thăng Long Imperial Citadel Centre and making their way to Ba Đình Square. The procession continued along Hoàng Diệu, Hoàng Văn Thụ, and Độc Lập streets, leaving spectators in awe.
